On December 3, in honor of the new snow and wintertime activities, we had a book lesson "Snowmen at Night" by Caralyn Beuhner We acted and danced out the pages of the book as they were read and then created our own dances for the rest of the pages in the book. It was an excellent experience in identifying key words and how those key words can be turned into movement. One of my favorite parts was when we did the "snowman races." The dancers had race but the trick was that they had to keep their legs straight the whole time. It was very fun and the dances they came up with at the end showed a clear understanding of vocabulary and movement.
Here are the groups reading the page that they've been given and looking for key words that could be used for their dances.
Here is a group practicing for their dance. Notice the high medium and low levels that they are using in their performance.
