Place Value: Ones, Tens, Hundreds

On October 18, we had a lesson on place value (see lesson plans tab).  We discussed the differences between ones, tens, and hundreds and how to identify them.  We compared the different place values to level (low, medium and high) in dance.  Low for ones, Medium for tens, and high for hundreds.  The dancers picked the different levels quite quickly.  We also worked again on their locomotor movements on different levels.  I was impressed by their ability to remember the critiques I had given them the last time and apply them without being asked.  They are quick learners and have excellent memories.

Here the students are showing how they can jump at a low level in the ones bucket part of the room.

Here the students are sliding in a circle to the number on their paper.  Notice how they are preparing to stretch their arms straight and wide.
